It’s nearly a month since I got to Benfontein. It’s an old game farm southeast of Kimberley where they stopped hunting some years back and the place is now used for research. There’s a guy studying aardvarks and bat-eared foxes (real funky-looking but cool animals), there’s a project on weavers, one on black-footed cat, and the one I’m working on. Out on the site, springbok are the most common animals, thou they never let you get too near and bolt off as soon as you’re within a couple hundred meters.
Hace casi un mes que llegué a Benfontein. Es un antiguo coto de caza (bastante grande) al sureste de Kimberley. Pero ahora se usa para investigación. Hay proyectos sobre lobo de tierra y zorros orejudos, tejedores, gato de patas negras, y el proyecto en el que estoy yo. Cuando sales por ahí, uno de los animales más comunes es el springbok, aunque nunca dejan que te acerques más de cien o doscientos metros.
